I enjoy the challenges of working with wood and can offer you a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture for your home. Most of my work is on a commission basis which allows you to be involved in the process of furniture making. My work uses temperate hardwood timbers from the British Isles, Europe and North America, for example Elm, Ash, Oak, Yew, Sycamore, Walnut, Maple and Cherry. My interest in woodwork goes beyond that of a maker as I am dedicated to the preservation of the skills required in all aspects of woodwork. Currently, I teach green woodworking skills to groups that often have no knowledge of timber or experience of working with it. I gain great satisfaction from seeing individuals as they acquire skills and as they become creative in their own right. In 1993 and 1996 I attended green woodworking and chair making courses run by the inspirational teacher, Mike Abbott. In 2003 I gained a Diploma in Fine Furniture Making from Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology - Gloscat. In 2002 I took over the workshop of cabinet maker Peter Williams in Wotton-Under-Edge. Peter, now retired, was invaluable in getting me started and most of his equipment is still in use today. Three years ago my workshop moved to the Woodchester Studio where I enjoy sharing a workspace with other talented craftsmen, whose work can be seen elsewhere on this website. As a provisional member of the Cotswold Craftsmen I enjoy the support and benefits of exhibiting with a group of professional designers, artists and craftsmen. Clients are welcome to visit the workshop, by arrangement, to discuss projects and to see the process of furniture making for themselves. Have a look at my work and feel free to contact me to discuss your project.
